I have this. distinctly bad feeling that sans and papyrus’ relationship in deltarune is. Not good. Let me show you why.

This struck me as exceptionally odd. Now, in undertale, sans and papyrus are really close. Sans is around Papyrus rather a lot especially in snowdin, their home. But here he just floats around the outside in town, and Papyrus is inside his house alone. That’s strange enough. Where one brother is, the other usually follows. But, we know in deltarune, relationships aren’t normal. Undyne doesn’t know Alphys, Bratty and Catty don’t get along, etc.

And then there’s this. Sans just outright saying he’s not going to be around for you befriending Papyrus even though it’s his idea. Remember undertale proper? How Sans wanted you to amuse Papyrus, but he followed you around the whole way through? Now part of this was Toriel’s request, but he’s also genuinely invested in your relationship with his brother and encourages it. But here he’s…not. He’s not interested.

Furthermore, Papyrus doesn’t leave the house. Now, undertale!Papyrus has a lot of faith in himself and his ability to make friends and be popular, even if he’s not quite there yet. He still believes it’ll definitely happen, and he’ll try really hard, and he’s great but here…he’s not trying. At all. And I wonder if that’s because…he doesn’t have that faith.

Specifically, I wonder if he doesn’t have that faith, because in DeltaRune, Sans is not supportive of him, like he is in Undertale. He’s not as interested. Sure, he cares, but he’s not nearly as active about it, especially given his approach right here. I think they’re distant. I don’t think they’re close at all, and I think there’s a wrench in the way of their relationship, one that I get the feeling we’ll see in more depth in future installments.

a non-exhaustive list of ridiculous shit undyne has done:

  • refrain from killing someone she wanted to see dead because they were hiding in grass that alphys likes to use to make ice cream
  • whisper “behind you” into an echo flower so she could look cool when ambushing the human she wanted to kill
  • stop her monologue halfway because “WHY SHOULD I TELL THAT STORY WHEN YOU’RE ABOUT TO DIE” but really she forgot what she was actually going to say
  • supplex a boulder in the middle of battle just because she can
  • stop in the middle of chasing someone she was trying to kill because they got a phone call
  • give someone cooking lessons instead of military training
  • obstinately refuse to even be nice to you until papyrus challenges her to become friends with you after which she becomes determined to become BESTIES
  • throw a spear at her guest when they tried to get up, breaking her table in half
  • “I don’t like cold food so I had alphys make me a fridge that keeps stuff warm”
  • build a giant sword she saw in an anime once
  • say she was a really hot blooded kid as if she’s not fucking hot blooded now
  • try to fight the king of all monsters when she was like 10
  • clear her kitchen for cooking by jumping on the counter and kicking everything off
  • make pasta sauce by punching vegetables to bits
  • stir spaghetti by mashing into the pot with a magic spear
  • own a stove that can only be turned up never turned down
  • burn her house down by cooking spaghetti and presumably not for the first time either
  • demand to fight an 8 year old in her burning house in an attempt to regain her dignity
  • start a pillowfight with papyrus and when he told her not to use the couch pillows she picked up the entire couch to throw at him
  • “the trash heap is a great place to pick up girls”
  • the flattery supplex
  • talk to alphys about the weather as an excuse for calling her even though the underground has no weather
  • write alphys a love letter that she seals tightly enough to make you need a chainsaw to open it but then forgot to sign it
  • slam dunk alphys into a garbage can
  • ask an 8 year old for confirmation that anime is real

Here are my Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse, a redraw of a Inktober series I did last year.

Conquest came and disarmed those in her wake, leaving them placid and vulnerable to their own fall.

War followed, her hair made of flames and the tip of her spear at the ready. The thunder of her horse’s hooves brought about earthquakes.

Next came Famine, her gaunt form and lack of strength endlessly made up for with relentless aggression. Crops failed, and the earth was left barren in her wake.

Death arrived last, at her own pace. Unlike her sisters she was in no rush, the souls left behind by their destruction would always be there to wait for her.
